Our Firm
Kevin S. Veenstra
Kevin holds two degrees from UC Berkeley. In 1983 he received a Bachelor of Science from the Haas School of Business with dual emphases in Accounting and Economics. In 1989 he received a Juris Doctorate from Berkeley Law.
Between undergraduate and law school, Kevin became a Certified Public Accountant.
During this time, Kevin worked for a major public accounting firm where he audited and engaged in tax planning for a variety of business entities including a multinational food conglomerate, retail malls, banks, savings and loans, municipalities, leasing enterprises, and oil and gas interests.
Kevin has written and lectured on many business and tax-related topics, including the selection and formation of business entities and business succession planning. Kevin has extensive experience structuring and forming start-up business enterprises, business purchases and sales, mergers and other forms of business combinations and restructuring, as well as secured and unsecured financing. In all aspects of his practice, Kevin emphasizes proactive tax planning.
Besides bringing a real-world tax perspective to his entire law practice, Kevin serves as a tax consultant for other professionals in connection with their practices, and has undertaken a number of complex controversy matters with the IRS including audits, appeals, tax court cases and offers-in-compromise.
Kevin’s practice of real estate law began in earnest while serving in the real estate department of a large law firm in San Francisco prior to moving to Santa Rosa. Since then, he has handled a variety of real estate matters, including purchase and sale transactions, real estate-secured financing, leases, tenancy-in-common arrangements, workouts, easements and property disputes. Kevin also has experience structuring 1031 exchanges.
Kevin’s estate planning practice includes preparation of trusts, wills, powers of attorney and other estate planning documents as well as planning for succession of closely held and family-owned businesses.
Most importantly, Kevin prides himself on taking a conscientious, common-sense, cost-effective and personable approach to his practice. Many of Kevin’s clients regard him as their general counsel, and he is often the first call his clients make when confronted with any legal issue.
